With unyielding love and passion for public service, and the ability to empower and mobilize people in need of help, Mr. Ramon Alexander is known on a local, state, and national level, as a progressive leader at the forefront of many crucial issues facing citizens throughout America. Born on October 19, 1984, Alexander is a proud product of Tallahassee, Florida, a community that has truly invested so much into Alexander’s life blessings. Since August of 2002, Alexander has successfully studied the field of political science and public administration at Florida A&M University (FAMU), and has made a major impact at FAMU serving in many key leadership roles throughout his tenure at the institution. 

      Alexander is a nationally-recognized motivational speaker, and advocate for issues of human rights, civil rights, and access and diversity issues throughout the country.  Due to his dedication and effective leadership style, Alexander was voted Student Government Most Valuable Person by the entire student body of FAMU for 2002-2003.  Mr. Alexander also was named FAMU Freshman Senator of the Year 2002-2003, FAMU Senator of the Year 2002-2003, Sophomore Senator of the Year 2003-2004, and received the distinguished Martin Luther King Campus-Wide Leadership Award.  He served as the Chair of the Judicial Rules Committee during the year 2003-2004, and spearheaded the efforts to have the Student Government governing documents, ratified by the Board of Trustees for the first time in the school’s history.  Alexander continued to impact the lives of many, by being elected to serve as the 34th Student Senate President at FAMU, successfully overseeing a 3.5 million dollar budget. 

      As a result of his consistent leadership, Alexander was elected by the over 12,000 students of FAMU as Student Body President serving from 2005-2006. As Student Body President, he helped spearhead hurricane relief efforts to raise over $25,000 for in need FAMU students from the effected region, hosted the first ever State of Black Student Summit in the country, spearheaded efforts to establish the Florida Access and Diversity Commission that recommended to the Florida Legislature a 38.6 million dollar plan to increase Need -Based-Aid for students seeking higher education, and led the Student Body Presidents throughout the State, to ensure that the Governor recommended the lowest tuition increase in the State of Florida in 11 years.     Subsequently as Student Body President, Alexander played a major role on the FAMU Board of Trustees, ensuring that a concrete time-line was approved by the FAMU Board of Trustees to select the 10th president of FAMU, that differential tuition prices were not increased, that the four sports cut at FAMU in the Fall of 2005 were advocated for and brought back to the University, and that a proposed state of the art Student Union facility was made a priority on the University master plan.

     Alexander was instrumental in organizing the historic March for Justice for Martin Lee Anderson on April 21, 2006, and served as a key spokesperson during the 36 hour sit-in at the Governors office.  Alexander has received numerous awards and recognitions for his many contributions for helping others. Tallahassee Community College recognized him in their 6th Annual African American History Calendar, the prestigious Tallahassee Chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators recognized him with the Student Leader of the Year Award, and the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters recognized him as the 2006 State Oratorical Champion.    

     Alexander is a Lead Counselor for the Florida American Legion Boys State Program, former member of the Florida Student Association Board of Directors, a former member of the Leon County Civic Center Authority Board, a member of FAMU Presidential Search Committee, the FAMU Chapter of NAACP, the Coalition for Justice for Martin Lee Anderson, and the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

     Mr. Alexander continues his commitment to making a positive difference within the Leon Community, as a candidate for Leon County Commissioner, District 1.  As a strong community advocate, he understands the value of a positive voice that listens to the people to get a clear understanding of the needs of the community, and he has a proven track record of getting results and improving the quality of life of the citizens of Leon County.
